Vintage Clothing Kilo Sale

Yesterday, I went to a kilo sale at the Worthing warehouse of vintage clothing retailer To Be Worn Again. With clothes being priced at £15 a kilo, it wasn't something I was going to miss out on! Also as yesterday was my birthday, I was able to go armed with lots of birthday money to spend. Hurrah!
I went there with Dad, who has a liking for their selection of shirts.

Keep reading for more about the kilo sale, what I bought, and my tips on how to shop at one of these events.

Cars, Fishing & etc.

As mentioned in my previous post, this weekend I went to The etc Magazine Show. A few weeks ago, a Groupon email popped into my inbox, offering me a 2 for 1 entry deal: entry for two people, for a measly £6! I thought, 'Why not!'
My friend V had recently messaged me to arrange meeting up, so we decided to check this event out.

The show was held in Brighton and we ended up roaming the seafront somewhat, too...

Another Week Gone By...

...and another pretty quiet one! I feel I'm failing a little in my attempt to Do Things for the entire month!

As memory (and photographic evidence) seems to escape me, this was the week I...

Studied more Japanese for Busy People Vol. 1 (List item #035) with the help of Alfie, who remained unimpressed by my telling him about buraun-san no ichinichi.

London Harness Horse Parade

It's the final day of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, and also the day of the London Harness Horse Parade
Despite the name, the event ran at the South of England Showground at Ardingly, Sussex. I guess it outgrew London quite a long time ago!

Dad is interested in horses, so my parents and I went to check it out!

Celebration of Spring

On Saturday we went to Burgess Hill to check out their 'Celebration of Spring'.
As it was Easter weekend, the town was pretty busy with people out to see the town's event and buy those last few bits and pieces before the shops closed for Easter Sunday.

The event was fairly small but included a petting zoo with cute lambs, maypole dancing, a band in the bandstand and Morris dancers, seen here. If you look closely on the left-hand side of the pictures, you can see some of the three-piece band that were accompanying the dancers.
It's a shame these ladies were placed in a little corner behind the local market stalls, as it limited the space for spectators and many people were walking past without realising what was going on! However, it was a very cheerful and uplifting performance to watch.

We were only there for a short while, but it was good to see an event that included traditional entertainment.

You can watch a couple of short videos of the dancers on my instagram, here and here

As for Sunday, it was a lazy day. I continued with entering competitions (as per my list goal) and watched a couple of films (also a goal on The List): The Great St Trinian's Train Robbery, and The Addams Family Values. I love me some Addams Family :)

Quiet Week

Though we've yet to have the weekend, I thought I'd update about this week. It's been rather quiet and mostly spent at home.

But I'm cracking on with The List!

Monday 14th

Mum and I headed into Brighton, each with some things to get. I went straight to 99p Store and Poundland and picked up some stuff from their gardening sections: seeder tray, sowing kit (x2), small pots and a watering can.

So I was finally able to plant the Goji berry seeds that were in my surprise post from a friend! And that's another goal in progress!
060. Grow a plant from seeds and give cuttings to people
I'm going to consider this goal as in progress, as I'll give individual plants to people as they grow. For the time being, I've got to be patient and wait for the seeds to germinate!

Ten Postcards

Although today was mostly unexciting (a trip out for a new pillow and a wade through fellow shoppers at the supermarket), I finally finished all ten of the postcards for item #58 on The List:
058. Send 10 postcards with artwork drawn by myself.
By 'finished' I mean I finally put varnish over the top of the 'Have A Nice Day' postcard to protect the watercolours. The paint ran a bit, but nevermind.
Now it's just a case of addressing and posting them off!

Also edited photos of earrings to add to my Etsy store, only to realise I can't list them yet as I don't have boxes suitable for them. It's definitely one of those days!

My First Craft Fair

...the title sounds like a kiddy toy, doesn't it? :)

As it says, today I sold at a craft fair for the first time! In doing so, I completed a goal from The List!
02. Sell things I've made at a craft fair.
I've been making jewellery for several years but only started selling last year. Mostly I make necklaces, but include earrings, rings, bracelets and brooches in my collection! Almost everything is one-off because I love unique things!
I incorporate vintage/retro/upcycled items into as much as possible so everything has its own little story to tell.

Craft Fair Prep and More Postcards!

It seems like a week has passed since I last updated, in fact a week ago I was travelling to Lincolnshire to visit a friend, and I returned Tuesday!

Since then, I've mostly been preparing for a craft fair and making more little postcards.

Wednesday 9th:

Usually none of my items are priced, as I've previously only sold online. It took me several pricing sessions to label everything up with these cute mini parcel tags!

As we had visitors on Wednesday, I didn't have much time for doing things, but I did manage to make another postcard:

Bunty's Tea Room, Lincoln

As I mentioned in my previous post, yesterday my friend Sara and I enjoyed lunch at Bunty's, a tea room on Lincoln's Steep Hill.

I wanted to make a separate post about Bunty's Tea Room (because it's fab) so here it is!

4th-8th April: Scunthorpe, S-Con and Lincoln

Okay, the next couple of posts will be catchups on my Month of Doing. I went on a trip 5th-8th, so most of this post will be about that! I was also able to work towards several things on The List, including 36. Eat/drink in 30 new places, 39. Explore 30 towns/cities/villages and 48. Visit 5 different counties.

Friday 4th
I did some volunteering. We put out all the Easter stock...this was mostly a lifetime's supply of egg cups!

Saturday 5th
This was the first day of my trip to Scunthorpe! My friend Sara lives there and invited me to visit :)

Ce n'est pas un champignon

Volunteering has filled most of my day, but I still took a few minutes to draw this little postcard...

My French is terrible (and this bit is courtesy of Google Translate) but it should read, roughly, 'This is not a toads stool'. It's a little nod to René Magritte's Ceci n'est pas une pipe. !

Am off on a trip tomorrow, so shan't be updating here for a few days.

Thursday 3 April 2014

Thursday 3rd April

As I mentioned yesterday, today involved a trip to the osteopath. My neck and shoulder are still painful but hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow feeling better!

Due to feeling rather sore, I didn't stay out for long today, but I did make some more postcards.

Wednesday 2nd April

So continues my attempt at 'Doing Something' every day this month!

Today was a 'quiet day'. I have pulled muscles in my neck and shoulder, and carrying things yesterday aggravated it and gave me lots of pain, boo. (Tomorrow's Something will be a trip to the osteopath...)

I photographed things I've made to sell at a craft fair/on Etsy, finished a display stand, and spent a couple of minutes doing this...

This is working towards something in The List !
058. Send 10 postcards with artwork drawn by myself

A Month of Doing!

Since April is my birth month, I thought it would be fun to try and Do Something every single day of the month!

Some of these things will be part of my usual routine (like volunteering), or necessary (travel and appointments).
Some will be little things (taking a walk, painting) whilst some will be bigger things (a day out, etc).

I'd love to go out every single day and do something interesting, but I would be utterly exhausted! I need quiet days in order to recover!

Anyway, for 1st April I went shopping with my Mum...
